Ksi Lisims LNG: when work could start, trades and pay

Updated September 18, 2026

Status: Not under construction, waiting on approvals or a final decision, as of September 14, 2026

The project’s website says construction could start in 2026. This depends on required regulatory approvals and the partners’ final investment decisions.

Ksi Lisims LNG is a proposed floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant and marine terminal on British Columbia’s north coast. The project has its major permits. This page covers where the project stands, how to look for work, the typical trades and the pay you can check.

When work could start

Before construction can start, the project needs:

  • Management plans approved by B.C.’s Environmental Assessment Office.

  • Provincial permits.

  • Federal authorizations.

Finding work

Check the project’s website and the companies named on this page for job postings. If you are a Nisga’a citizen, the project asks you to email its team to say you want work. You can find the email address on the project’s website.

Where can you find job postings?

Werko does not track job postings for Ksi Lisims LNG yet.

The project has not said whether workers will live in a camp or work a rotation.

Local and Indigenous hiring

The B.C. certificate requires a plan for managing social and economic effects. The plan must give priority to:

  • Regional and Indigenous hiring.

  • Apprenticeships.

  • Buying goods and services from regional and Indigenous suppliers.

Indigenous leadership

  • Ksi Lisims LNG is Indigenous-led. The project says it could bring jobs, training and business opportunities for Indigenous Nations and other communities in the region.[1][3]

Where the work is

  • The proposed plant and marine terminal would be at Wil Milit on Pearse Island, in British Columbia.[5][1]

  • Wil Milit is about 15 kilometres west of Gingolx, on treaty land owned by the Nisga’a Nation.[3]

Trades typical for an LNG plant

How many workers it could need

  • B.C. expects an average of up to 450 workers during construction. The permanent workforce is expected to be up to 250 people.[4]

  • The Major Projects Office predicts over a thousand skilled jobs, counting both construction and permanent jobs.[1]

B.C. and the Major Projects Office give different estimates. Both count construction jobs and permanent jobs.

Worker protections

The B.C. certificate sets 23 conditions that the project must follow by law. These include:

  • A health and medical services plan to reduce pressure from outside workers on local health services.

  • A gender and cultural safety plan. It must include programs to prevent and respond to gender-based violence. These programs apply to all workers.

Federal conditions

  • Federal conditions include measures to protect Indigenous health and social and economic conditions. Federal conditions also protect cultural heritage and traditional land use.[9]

Project partners and design team

  • Western LNG is the lead developer and future operator. The other partners are Rockies LNG Partners, a group of major Canadian natural gas producers, and the Nisga’a Nation.[5][2]

  • Black & Veatch, working with Samsung Heavy Industries of South Korea, won the front-end engineering design contract for the floating production facility.[10]

What has happened so far

  • December 14, 2022:

the project was granted a 40-year federal export licence.[11]

  • September 15, 2025:

the federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change issued the project’s decision statement under the Impact Assessment Act.[5][9]

  • September 15, 2025:

    B.C. issued the project’s environmental assessment certificate.[11][4]

  • November 4, 2025:

the BC Energy Regulator issued the LNG facility permit.[11][2]

  • November 13, 2025:

the project was referred to the Major Projects Office.[1]

Who will buy the gas

Two buyers have signed up for the plant’s LNG. One expects deliveries by the early 2030s. The other expects first deliveries in 2032.
