Canada Investment Summit 2026: a guide for trades

The projects below have been referred to the Major Projects Office for assessment and consultation. The federal government says the summit resulted in nearly $500 billion in new investment commitments to Canada. The Major Projects Office lists 18 projects referred to it for assessment.

  • Canada Nickel’s Crawford Project, in Timmins, Ontario.[2]

  • Contrecoeur Container Terminal Project, in Contrecœur, Quebec.[2]

  • Darlington New Nuclear Project, in Bowmanville, Ontario.[2]

  • Deep Geological Repository, in Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and the Township of Ignace, Ontario.[2]

  • Grays Bay Road and Port, in the Kitikmeot Region, Nunavut.[2]

  • Iqaluit Nukkiksautiit Hydro Project, in Iqaluit, Nunavut.[2]

  • Ksi Lisims LNG, on Pearse Island, British Columbia.[2]

  • LNG Canada Phase 2, in Kitimat, British Columbia.[2]

  • Mackenzie Valley Highway, from Wrigley to Inuvik, Northwest Territories, on a route still being developed.[2]

  • McIlvenna Bay Project, in east-central Saskatchewan.[2]

  • North Coast Transmission Line, in northwestern British Columbia.[2]

  • Northcliff Resources’ Sisson Mine, at Sisson Brook, New Brunswick.[2]

  • Nouveau Monde Graphite’s Matawinie Mine, in Saint-Michel-des-Saints, Quebec.[2]

  • Red Chris Mine Expansion, in northwestern British Columbia.[2]

  • Roberts Bank Terminal 2, in Delta, British Columbia.[2]

  • Taltson Hydro Expansion, in the Great Slave Lake region, Northwest Territories.[2]

  • West Coast Oil Pipeline, from the Bruderheim, Alberta area to British Columbia.[2]

Strategies the Major Projects Office is working on

  • Alto High-Speed Rail, a proposed initiative to build Canada’s first high-speed railway.[3][4]

  • Atlantic Energy Strategy, which includes Wind West.[5][4]

  • Critical Minerals Strategy.[6][4]

  • Labrador Trough Clean Power, Critical Minerals and Infrastructure Corridor, referred on August 17, 2026.[7][4]

  • Northwest Critical Conservation Corridor, which focuses on mining, energy and trade infrastructure.[8][4]

  • Pathways Plus combines three things: Oil Sands Alliance projects to reduce emissions, support for production growth, and the proposed West Coast Oil Pipeline.[9][4]

  • Port of Churchill Plus, a joint project with the Government of Manitoba that proposes upgrades to the Port of Churchill.[10][4]

  • Port of Vancouver Gateway Strategy, to grow capacity at the Port of Vancouver.[11][4]

  • Transmission InterConnect Investment Strategy, which focuses on lines like the North Coast Transmission Line.[12][4]

Other announcements at the summit

  • Bell Canada plans to expand Bell AI Fabric in Saskatchewan to build a 1.2-gigawatt Canadian AI infrastructure hub. The Government of Canada welcomed the plan on September 14, 2026.[13][1]

  • September 15, 2026:

    the government committed approximately $140 million through the Canada Growth Fund to support Generation Mining’s Marathon Project in Northwestern Ontario.[1]

  • Canada will seek private investment through long-term agreements, called concessions, to operate its four largest airports. The Prime Minister announced the plan on September 15, 2026.[1]

  • The government proposes to implement the new Productivity Mega Deduction. The Prime Minister announced it on September 15, 2026.[14][15]

About the summit

  • The Canada Investment Summit took place in Toronto, Ontario, on September 14 and 15, 2026.[16][17][1]

  • The Prime Minister of Canada hosted the summit with CPP Investments and PSP Investments.[16][1]

  • The government said the summit would focus on three things: new investment for major national projects, new career opportunities for Canadians, and a stronger economy.[17]

  • It named clean energy, critical minerals, and new technologies and artificial intelligence as the industries it wants investment in.[17]

  • The government’s broader plan aims to attract $1 trillion in total investment in Canada over the next five years.[16][17]

  • The government also named defence and critical minerals as two sectors where it made new investments.[1]
